Seafood
  • DO  NOT consume shellfish you have harvested yourself unless you know the quality of the water it is grown in - if you are unsure of the water quality go to http://dpipwe.tas.gov.au for further information and contact details.

  • If you catch your own fish ensure you consume it or refrigerate it as soon possible.

  • Large fish should be cut into fillets and frozen and used within the time period recommended on your freezer door or lid.

  • If the seafood is going to be cooked this will kill any contamination caused by improper handling but there could be a risk if it is consumed raw, for example raw oysters, sushi, sashimi or precooked prawns served cold - you will need to be particularly careful and hygienic in preparing these.

  • Raw seafood isn’t recommended for:

- pregnant women,

- people with compromised immune systems,

- the elderly, or

- young children.
