Sponsorship & Donation Policy

One of Brown’s guiding business principles, is to ensure that local communities benefit from our presence on an enduring basis.

 

Our vision is to aspire to the highest standards of business conduct, world-class treatment of our people, good relationships with communities and exemplary customer service.

 

We are keen to be involved in a wide range of community programs within our local area, as well as help promote healthy living with our support of community and sporting groups through sponsorship.

 

We want our customers to be assured that Brown’s supports their local community every time they shop with us. 

 

However, we are not able to support everyone.  If you are seeking sponsorship or donations, please help us help you and read our sponsorship and donation guidelines set out below. 

 

Our Sponsorship and Donation Policy is designed to support small to medium donations and sponsorships, including events. Please note, we are not able to provide cash donations; our support is through in-kind or product support only.

 

There are three areas in which eligible organisations can apply:

  • Product Donation - This is a contribution to a worthy cause, which may be made without any expectation of a direct benefit to Brown’s, other than to be an active and responsible corporate citizen.

  • Sponsorship - This is an investment in an event or project where we expect a return on our investment.

  • Event Assistance - This is an event you are organising where you would like a Brown’s service, product or capability provided.

 

We aim to share support across a number of areas, such as:

  • Education

  • Children

  • Health

  • Sustainability

  • Welfare

  • Sport & Recreation Groups

 

To be eligible for an in-kind donation:

  • Your organisation must be a legal entity.

  • Your organisation must be not-for-profit.

  • Your projects must be able to demonstrate a community benefit.

 

The following requests will NOT be eligible for support:

  • Applications from individuals.

  • Applications from political organisations.

  • Applications from religious organisations for religious purposes.

 

Eligibility for sponsorship

  • Your application needs to be submitted at least 6 weeks before your event to allow us to properly prepare and plan. (For example, if your event is mid-March, please apply by the end of January.)

  • Each application needs to include clearly stated objectives and measurable benefits to the community.

  • Each application should aim to deliver a strong return on investment for Brown’s by providing appropriate media and sponsorship leverage opportunities according with our level of investment.

  • Where possible, sponsorships will deliver opportunities for Brown’s employees to participate.

  • Brown’s will only sponsor activities that are consistent with its objectives to increase store awareness.

  • Applicants may be requested to supply further information for us to properly understand your needs. Please note, this will not necessarily mean a successful application.

  • All applicants will be advised within 10 working days as to whether or not they have been successful.

 

Assessment
  • Each request will be carefully assessed to determine if it meets our sponsorship, marketing and community objectives.

  • Each class of request  may be allocated to 2 broad categories;

Local - This will be assessed as benefiting local Northern Midlands region groups and organisations and will be assessed by Brown’s management.

Global - This category will be assessed as benefiting the broader Tasmanian community and reflecting broader IGA group support and may be further assessed by Tasmanian Independent Retailers (TIR).

  • Brown’s will favour requests that can be categorised as Local and that the support that is to be provided will reflect positively on our local community. 

  • Brown’s will generally avoid business/profit earning related sponsorship unless a clear profit return to Brown’s can be demonstrated.

  • The dollar value requested will be taken into account as to the affordability and credit that Brown’s will receive via media etc.

  • All sponsorship applications will be evaluated according to the criteria set out below which you should respond to in your proposal.

  • Requests for sponsorship will be evaluated on a number of criteria including;

Worthiness

Value/benefit to both the community and Brown’s

Cost

  • Each request will be assessed as quickly as possible and a response will be sent to you once your proposal has been evaluated.

  • Please be aware that Brown’s may be unable to proceed with requests for support that do not fit within these objectives.

  • In addition, budgetary constraints may limit the number of opportunities that Brown’s can undertake in any given period.

Criteria

Details of the Sponsorship/Event

  • Organisation/Event details

  • Contact person and relationship to event (i.e. agency/contractor/event manager);

  • Describe the type of organisation/event (i.e. is the event a one-off);

  • If applicable, include a program of events.

 

Sponsorship Details

  • Proposal Summary (clearly state your objectives and measurable benefits to the community);

  • Proposed date and corresponding location of the event/activity;

  • Record the requested sponsorship amount and the period over which the sponsorship will be conducted;

  • Who are the other sponsors?

  • Record the expected/actual number of visitors;

  • Any other relevant information.

 

Media

  • A full list of media benefits (i.e. print, radio, television, Internet coverage).

 

Hospitality

  • A full list of hospitality benefits (i.e. tickets to events/functions).
